Written by Englishman John Newton in the late 18th century, the hymn’s lyrics reflect his personal journey. As a young man on board a merchant ship, Newton underwent a spiritual awakening while caught in a deadly storm at sea.
Amazing Grace has since become an anthem of hope, which makes this sound a lovely memorial chime.
